Writing - Tineke Baes van Platinascoop

Tineke as a writer

From a young age, writing was my joy and refuge. I filled diary after diary with poems, racing thoughts, and boundless stories. Crafting little plays and scenes fueled my imagination, nurturing my lifelong dream of becoming an author.

Unfortunately, many reacted to my aspirations with undue negativity, dampening my spirits and causing me to tuck away my childhood dream. I stopped writing outside of obligatory school projects, and became fearful of sharing my stories with others.

When the time came to chart my academic path, I found myself at a crossroads. Despite being inherently creative, I wrestled with feelings of doubt, fearing the uncertainty that accompanied creative pursuits.

After taking a gap year, I had rebuilt my confidence and love for creativity. And I finally discovered a fitting solution. Opting for a more technical film school allowed me to strike a balance, nurturing my writing while developing essential technical skills. This choice offered a semblance of job security while still nourishing my creative spirit.

While in film school, my passion for creative expression continued to burgeon. Fortunately, I discovered the power of collaboration, realizing I could work alongside technical filmmakers while focusing on my creative endeavors. Embracing this newfound perspective, I started writing more frequently and finally started seeing a future in writing again.

Today, I find fulfillment in ghostwriting scripts for my technical filmmaker peers, crafting my own scripts for directing, and pursuing my dream of publishing books in the years ahead. Rediscovering my purpose brings me immense joy and grants my inner child the freedom to dream once more.
